Child Protection
Under UK’s Child Protection Law all our staff members will have completed criminal record bureau (CRB) checks to ensure there is no reason why they should not work with children. Welfare and the appropriate care of students are important to us and our Child Protection Policy is available on request.
Clothes and Laundry
Students can wear casual clothes and there is no uniform. Please note that students should also bring towels and clothes suitable for wet weather, sports and swimming. Bed linen is provided by the host schools.
All clothes should be clearly marked with the student’s name as this helps it to be returned to the right person after it has been to the laundry. The school will do laundry once a week and there are also washing machines and driers in the accommodation which students can use.
Course Certificate and reports
As long as students have attended all aspects of the course they will receive a certificate from Academic Summer. The teachers will also write reports on students’ progress which parents and agents can access through Academic Summer's online system.
Electrical Equipment
It is important that all electrical equipment comply with British Standards. We will help students to check this when they arrive. There are notices up in the accommodation and students will be able to borrow a UK adaptor if needed.
The schools have excellent IT facilities so we do not recommend that students bring laptops. However, there is wireless access throughout the campus which students can use.
English Language Examinations
Depending on the examination dates available on your student’s chosen course we can arrange for them to prepare and take IELTS, PET, FCE or CAE. We will prepare your students for these examinations and this will be one of the English options they will be able to choose. Please contact us for more information.

The course fees cover the cost of all tuition, accommodation, food, the leisure programme, insurance and airport transfers. The fees should be paid five weeks before the course starts.
Illness and Medicines
On our Application Form you should give us details of any medical conditions and medication that your student is taking so we can make sure they receive the appropriate care from our staff.
If your student is ill while they are on the course we have a nurse on call or we can arrange a doctor’s appointment. The Sidcot School nurse will visit the school everyday before lessons in the mornings and meet any students who would like to see her. Key staff are also qualified First Aiders.
Insurance
We offer comprehensive insurance as part of the package. However, expensive items such as Laptops and IPads are not covered.

This summer we are offering activities such as pool parties, archery, drama workshops, team building activities, sports, swimming, BBQs and discos.
There will be talent shows during the course so if students would like to bring anything for this then this would be good.
Our trips for students at Sidcot School will be to the following places: London, Oxford, Cardiff, Bristol, Bath Weston-Super-Mare and other places local to the school.
For students in Liverpool College trips will include: Alton Towers, Manchester, York, Blackpool, North Wales and of course enjoying the city of Liverpool.

Meals
Our host schools provide three meals a day. Please let us know if your student has any food allergies or requires special food on the Application Form. We will put the menu on the website each week for your information. For students who are vegetarian or who cannot eat pork then we have alternative options for them.
When we go out on trips students will be given a packed meal.
There is a tuck shop at Sidcot School for students to buy snacks. This will be open from 18.30 to 19.00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sundays.
Passports
We ask students to give us their passports when they arrive at the school and we will store these safely during the course. Under the new UKBA (UK Border Agency) rules, if your student is outside the EU, we need to check that your student has the correct visa and keep a photocopy of the passport.
Pocket Money
Your student will need some pocket money for shopping and any additional activities. We recommend that students use our course bank to keep their money safe. They will be able to withdraw money at morning breaktimes Monday to Friday.
Safety
On arrival at to the school, we give students an information sheet about personal safety and we also go through this on our first day as part of the induction programme. We advise students how to look after themselves and also their personal belongings. They need to realise that they are in a different country and culture and it is important to listen to the advice given to them as it will help them to get the most out of their course.
Sports
We have sports lessons twice a week and we also offer sports activities some evenings. Some of the sports we are offering this year include archery, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, horse-riding, rounders, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball. Liverpool College has a gym which students will be able to use.
Supervision
Our Head of House and other staff leaders live in the accommodation with students and they are there to help if a student has a problem or needs to talk.
We ask students to respect the rules of the course to ensure everyone is safe and happy during their summer course experience.
Telephone Calls
There are telephones on the school campus for students to use. Parents should not call before 07.30 in the morning or after 21.00 at night. Please remember the time difference! The Directors are on call 24 hours a day for emergencies. At Liverpool College students have telephones in their bedrooms so parents can call on these numbers.
Helen Lami is also available for parents or agents if they have any questions. Her mobile number is: +44 7968152795.
We advise students to have a mobile phone and we ask for this number on our travel form.
