English as an international language
In today’s world, we believe everyone is a native speaker of English as an international language. Whether or not English is you first language, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in interpersonal communication and in academic language proficiency. Together, they will help you to study and communicate in the international world of today and tomorrow.
English Options offered at Academic Summer
Summer English options will range from looking at an extended reading text to developing presentation skills and to studying a Shakespeare play. This is good pre-IB preparation if you are going on to study English A1 or A-Level English Literature; it will also help you with all other subjects. The English options we are offering are:

The course focuses on developing oral and written communication skills and performing literary analysis of works of literature produced in that language. It includes the following:

- Compare and contrast
- Presentations
- Commentary
- Analysis
- Critical thinking
- Writing skills
English B Skills
English B focuses more on learning to communicate in the language in written and spoken form.
Students study a variety of topics such as the environment, famous people, current and historical events, immigration, music, art, cuisine, fashion, film, etc… to develop their skills in listening, reading, writing, speaking and cultural interaction. Types of texts studied include: news stories, short stories, brochures, advertisements, poems, informal and formal letters, excerpts from plays, editorials, debates, reviews and interviews
English language development at Academic Summer
If English is not your first language, we also offer an intensive language development programme. You will work on listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. The topics covered will complement other areas in the curriculum accessing the power of the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach.
We can arrange for students to take external English language examinations on request. This summer we are offering English examination preparation for IELTS and also the Cambridge Exams. We can arrange for you to take these examinations during your course with us. You need to pre-book this. Please contact us for more information.
