Academic Juniors runs quality primary school courses for young learners aged 9 to 12 in July and August.

The Academic Programme
Academic Juniors offers a full curriculum of subjects in classes of up to twelve students.
The medium of instruction is English and students will have 20 hours of lessons a week plus sports and Leadership pod time during the school day. The timetable includes the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, Technology, Art, Music, Dance and Drama. Many lessons are cross-curricular, where your child will study a topic or participate in a project that may include, for example, Science, Mathematics and Geography. Your child will be taught by experienced primary school teachers who know how young learners learn best. Lessons are complemented by trips and activities to bring the lessons to life.
Your child will meet with a small Leadership pod of his or her classmates to talk about their day and what they have learnt. He or she can talk about things that are important to them; it is also an opportunity for him or her to talk about any problems he or she may have. This time also allows your child to use the school’s computers, to write a letter home to you or to relax after a long day. During Leadership pod time students will take part in activities designed to help them develop friendships as well as working on the PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) aspect of the course. Activities include poster making, playing games, going for walks and problem solving activities with their friends.
At Academic Juniors we treat our students as individuals and tailor our course to suit all of our students. We have developed a program to help stretch the older juniors, giving them some of the experiences that their peers on the IGCSE course experience. This includes:
Older juniors are given extra responsibility to help them to develop a sense of purpose and maturity. They are able to become a House rep, helping the younger juniors in the by taking on a “big sibling” role. They may also be a Leadership pod helper, assisting their leader with jobs such as taking the register, encouraging the younger juniors to earn points outside of Leadership pod sessions and supporting their peers both in Leadership pod sessions and in daily life.
Our eldest juniors have extra work designed to give them responsibility for their learning, an important part of the IB ethos. There is an emphasis on reporting and critiquing with independent study work and our oldest juniors work with their teacher to identify areas in which they can develop academically. By sharing their work with the class (either as a presentation, as part of a debate or in another way) students will develop their English skills as well as develop confidence in presentation, helping to prepare them for more advanced study.
Students may earn independence on trips through positive behaviour throughout the course, by taking on extra responsibility such as being a Leadership pod helper or a house rep. Independence on trips can include time to go around as part of a small group without a member of staff at safe, contained locations.
Running an activity:
As part of the CAS program older juniors will take on extra responsibility, helping to run activities for the younger junior students. This could be arranging a fete, assisting with coordinating the talent show or teaching a skill to the other students, such as a dance routine for presentation day.
